Well, it’s supposed to be pretty crappy this weekend with chilly weather and thunderstorms. So you might want to stay inside.
The public library downtown is a neat place. You can go to the back, to the original library, where they have all kinds of historical documents and photographs. Look up your address in one of the old city directories and see who lived there way back when. Or even if you don’t live in an old neighborhood, it’s still fun to look at the old books and pictures of oldey timey downtown.
Then go have a meal and a drink at Old Chicago on Tejon. Yea, it’s a chain but it’s in one of the older and more famous downtown buildings. Plus they have really good deep dish pizza. Be sure to check out the old photograph of the building in the lobby.
If you’re still in the mood for Colorado Springs history, visit the Pioneers Museum for more photographs and artwork. They even have a couple of carriages from the old days, a large gun collection, and a whole section on the tuberculosis cure “chasers” who pretty much started the city. You’ll have to go on Saturday because they’re closed on Sundays.
Right next door to the Pioneers Museum is Nosh. You can go there to have drinks or a meal. Yum.
Later you can check out a movie at Kimball’s Peak Theatre. They’ve recently turned it into a threeplex. There’s bound to be something you want to see there. Also, it’s cool because they have a cafe/bar in the lobby where you can get your drink on before the show and even bring it into the theatre. Awesome. But bring cash (or use their ATM) because they don’t accept credit or debit cards for tickets, concessions, or stuff from the bar.
Stay dry and have a great weekend!
