Since we’re on the topic of Old Colorado City over here lately, I wanted to tell you about another OCC restaurant we’ve been to recently.
Almost everyone knows about Pizzeria Rustica. They have some sort of “dine green” certification so that’s cool. But also the food is really good. The ambiance is even better.
We sat outside on the patio. Lovely, twinkle lights, separated from the street by a neat old fence.
It was Local Food Week when we went, but they almost always have local food anyway. We had a delicious antipasto plate to start. We got the vegetarian version which had lots of cheese, olives, stuffed sweet peppers (OMG I was about to die), squash blossoms, and bread. We also had a caprese salad (tomatoes and fresh mozzarella) with multi-colored tomatoes. Most of it was from Venetucci Farm which is a local farm (a farm in Colorado Springs? I know!). I believe they get a lot of their items from that farm, even when it isn’t Local Food week. The nonvegetarian version had all stuff, too, but also salamis and other meats. The antipasto changes a lot depending on what’s fresh locally. Don’t you think that’s awesome?
We also had a delish pizza with caramelized onions and red peppers that was really nice but I didn’t get a good pic of. They have a good wine list and a few beers, too.
I just LOVE Pizzeria Rustica. I love sipping wine (Wednesdays that have lots of wine specials) and snacking an a fancy antipasto plate on a patio surrounded by twinkle lights. It’s pretty much my favorite thing to do. And the antipasto was really really good. But honestly, I make as good a pizza at home myself. Of course that won’t keep me from going back. ..:)
