Some places to get good coffee, Chicago Edition

We love coffee. We love to go out and get coffee. We spend a great deal of time with coffee. Lucky for us, Chicago has a ton of excellent coffee houses and cafes. Here are some of our faves so far.

Intelligentsia, multiple locations. Ours is 3123 North Broadway, Lakeview, Chicago, 60657.

Seriously. We moved to Chicago without coming here first. I only had Google Maps to help me decide where to live. When I saw Intelligentsia, I knew this was going to be our neighborhood.

City Grounds Coffeebar: 507 W. Dickens, Lincoln Park, Chicago, 60614

Really good espresso in a clean, contemporary space. The regular coffee is the pour-over kind, yummy.

Bourgeois Pig Cafe: 738 W. Fullerton Parkway, Lincoln Park, Chicago, 60614

Cool old house with brick and wood. A nice patio in the summer. Good food, espressos and delicious huge cakes (the best carrot cake I’ve had in awhile). YUM!

Rae’s Restaurant Santa Monica

I’ve seen Rae’s at 2901 Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica a million times but never went in till recently. Very retro, and the food (we had breakfast) is what you’d expect. I liked it because it’s so photogenic.

Coffee in L.A.

I go to L.A. just about every month. Sometimes Mike comes with me. There’s a lot to do there and there are always new places to go.

Of course we always go get coffee. Proof Bakery: 3156 Glendale Boulevard, Los Angeles, has fancy breakfast pastries, pretty desserts and great coffee.

Downtown Colorado Springs Wrap-up Round-up

We love living in Chicago now. We appreciate all the things that big cities have to offer, including the progressive attitudes of the citizens and the people in charge. But Colorado Springs has its charms, and it was really hard to leave. The downtown area is very pretty with lots of trees and flowers (when the city can find it in the budget to water them) and beautiful historic homes and buildings (for now anyway). There are lots of little shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars, a couple of cute parks, a public library, some art galleries, and two museums. It’s flat so it’s easy to walk or bike around, and the views of the mountains are stunning.  Here are some of the things we loved about living in downtown Colorado Springs (along with some of our gripes, as usual).

You can walk or bike all over the place. It's flat and the drivers are cautious.

We’ve devoted a lot of space on this blog to downtown, and this post is not at all comprehensive (we didn’t even mention Shuga’s!). So please check out our other posts for tons more things to do. And be sure to let us know what your favorite downtown things are and when new shops and restaurants open up! We might not live there anymore, but we still care. And of course we’ll be back at some point. Hell, maybe we’ll even come back and get that coffee truck we’ve been dreaming about rolling.

Oinkety Fave: Paravicini’s

Paravicini’s always wins all the prizes for the best Italian food in Colorado Springs. It’s delicious! I recently took the photos for their website and one of my best friends, Janel, works there. But I’m not biased, I’ve been going there forever as you can see by these camera phone pics!
